The Word of God is our only guide
The church of Christ follows only the Bible when it comes to all matters of faith, doctrine, worship and morality. When Christians believe and practice today what Christians believed and practiced almost 2,000 years ago, then we are the same church now that they were then. When the church began, we see that they were driven by a desire to learn, to know and to practice what the apostles taught concerning Christianity (Acts 2:36-47). So today when people continue in the apostles’ teachings (Acts 2:42), they are part of the same church that was established in those days (Acts 2:47) because they are obeying the same commands of God.
In the church of Christ we encourage all Christians to continually study God’s word because the Bible is the only inspired truth we have to guide us. The scriptures teach us everything we need to know to please God and to be the church that Jesus built (Matthew 16:13-18). We must not follow the traditions and opinions of uninspired people. We need to carefully study the scriptures because we will be judged by these inspired words (John 12:48). The apostle Paul defines the attitude we bring to the study of God’s Word and the practice of our faith in 2 Timothy.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. – 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (New King James Version)
What to expect when you visit
On Sunday our worship assemblies include congregational acapella singing, scripture reading and prayers. Worship will be led by members assigned to these responsibilities. There will be a message preached from scriptures using the Bible as our only source of truth. We observe communion each week (members partaking of bread and grape juice as a memorial of Jesus’ body and blood on the cross). Members are also given an opportunity to contribute to the work of the kingdom. Visitors will be given a warm welcome by members of our church, but visitors will not be called upon in a public way.
What Must I Do To Be Saved?
Note: all scriptures are quoted from the New King James Version
1. Hear the gospel
And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said to them: “Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. - Acts 15:7
2. Believe the gospel
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned - Mark 16:15-16
3. Repent of sins
Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, - Acts 17:30
4. Confess Christ
…if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. - Romans 10:9-10
5. Be baptized to remove sins
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. - Acts 2:38
And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’ - Acts 22:16
6. Live a faithful life
Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. - Revelation 2:10
And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister. – Colossians 1:21-23
